Laundry List is an interactive documentary (i-Doc) that aims to provide an in-depth look at Ireland's Magdalene Laundries and their significance in the global process of women's rights. The project combines digital collage, archival footage, video, and interactive experiences to recreate history, provide survivor testimonies, and analyze the ongoing impact of these institutions on contemporary society. Viewers will learn about the history of the Laundromat, survivor stories, similar institutions around the globe, and how these historical legacies impact the development of women's rights today through six chapters in sequence, and will be free to return to any of the chapters for in-depth exploration after completing the linear narrative experience. This project is a group assignment, and I am primarily responsible for the visual aspects of the project, including interface design, image presentation, and the visual construction of the interactive experience, aiming to enhance the viewer's sense of immersion and emotional resonance through visual language. The core interactive elements of the project include: a map of Ireland with the location of the Laundromat and links to survivor stories; a historical retrospective showing the origins of the institution, how it operated and how it was closed down; survivor stories presented in an immersive interactive experience; a global perspective showing the history of similar institutions around the world and opening up the archives for the viewer to browse through; and a platform for tracking the social reflections and policy changes that took place after the closure of the Magdalene Laundromat, as well as the creation of an interactive platform. The lasting impact. We hope that this project will attract an international audience concerned with women's rights, social justice, and history education, and become a teaching resource, reference material for memorials, and even develop into an exhibition program. For financial support, we plan to partner with educational institutions, arts foundations, and social justice organizations such as TrueTube, the Irish Arts Council, and JUSTICE FOR MAGDALENES RESEARCH for financial support and academic resources. By building this dynamic archive, we hope to not only keep the history of the Magdalene Laundries from being forgotten, but also provide a profound historical reference to global women's rights issues, prompting viewers to reflect on and participate in the movement for gender equality in contemporary society.
